Should I have trimmed pubes?

Body hair is the topic of a huge discussion at the moment, particularly amongst young people. Many young people have become accustomed to watching Pornography, and this is leading to unrealistic expectations in the bedroom, particularly around the issue of public hair.

Should I have trimmed pubes?

Some people believe that removing pubic hair completely leaves a cleaner and tidier appearance and some men even claim that removing public hair makes the penis look bigger (it doesn’t).  However, your pubic hair is incredibly important because it acts as a natural barrier against bacteria and infection. Pubic hair also helps to maintain the correct moisture levels of the vagina which in turn, protects against yeast infections. Furthermore, pubic hair also protects the delicate skin from friction and abrasions during sex, so it’s something that we need to keep hold of.

That’s not to say that you shouldn’t stay nicely groomed. Everyone’s tastes are different and it’s not for me to say who you should look. However, you can still have pubic hair and wear a thong without the dreaded ‘spider’s legs’ creeping out.

Grooming your pubic hair

A recent study in the USA found that 76% of adults groom their pubic hair. However, almost 26% of those questioned have also sustained an injury by doing so. These injuries can range from cuts, burns and even rashes. Most people used conventional methods of grooming such as hair removal cream, home waxing kits (ouch!) and even scissors to ensure that they have non-existent or trimmed pubes. This isn’t just risky, but it’s dangerous too. Particularly as younger people are starting to undertake this practice.

Waxing or Shaving the bikini line

Instead of undergoing painful waxing at home. I always recommend having your bikini line waxed by a trained professional. Not only will you enjoy a procedure that is safe and less stressful, you’re also putting your privates in the best possible care. Many people choose a shaver to ensure that they have neatly trimmed pubes. However, I always recommend that you use an electric shaver with a safety guard to keep the root of the hair intact, and to ensure that you don’t suffer from any nicks and cuts.  If you’re giving the bikini line a close shave with a razor, soothe the damaged skin afterwards with coconut oil, vitamin A and D ointment, or zinc oxide. These products don’t support the growth of bacteria, and won’t cause an infection.

Laser Hair Removal

Whilst I would never advocate removing your pubic hair, you can keep it nicely groomed and neat, if that’s what you want to do. Furthermore, you don’t have to venture outdoors because you can simply get laser hair removal at home. Laser hair removal machines are safer than they have ever been, and have made their way into the mainstream market. Therefore, home laser removal is ideal for tidying up a bikini line because that you can still enjoy the protection that you need from your pubic hair, and enjoy the freedom to wear whatever you like.

Please note: Laser hair removal is permanent, so the effects will last forever.

Therefore, my recommendation is to keep your pubic hair, but you can keep the bikini line neat and tidy. This will help to protect your body from unwanted bacteria and injury, whilst giving you the freedom to wear the clothes that you like.
