Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Review

Due to the arrival of the most anticipated film of 2015, Leanne and I dragged ourselves away from our busy work schedule and off to the Vue Cinema to watch the Fifty Shades of Grey Movie.

The long awaited film was released today, the 13th February and according to a lovely member of management I managed to accost, has managed to sell out of all 7 screen viewings today alone.

That’s pretty phenomenal!

Where Can I see the Fifty Shades of Grey Movie?

For those still waiting to see the Fifty Shades of Grey Movie, its showing at most major cinema’s from February the 13th onwards. I’d recommend booking in advance.

Determined to throw the viewer in at the deep end, the opening scene kicks off with the iconic first meeting between Christian Grey, played by Jamie Dornan and Anastasia Steele, Dakota Johnson. Anastasia, persuaded by a college friend conducts a cringe worthy interview with a handsome business mogul and the couple find themselves overcome with a powerful mutual attraction.  A few ‘chance’ meetings later and Christian reveals an aspect of his character that causes some difficulty for Anastasia.

Christian craves control in all aspects of life and is a practising Dominant. Rather than a standard day-to-day relationship, Christian prefers the Dominant / submissive relationship without any dating or emotional connection. Anastasia, a shy and inexperienced virgin, has never had a boyfriend before and struggles to grasp the concept of Christian’s lifestyle. They continue their passionate love affair with a smattering of extravagant gifts and some kinky sex scenes, but does it end with hearts and flowers, or broken hearts?

I won’t spoil it for you, I promise.

My Review of the Fifty Shades of Grey Movie

As Christian Grey, Jamie Dornan is sensational. I must admit, I thought he was a poor choice and didn’t care much for the Christian Grey character in the books. However, Jamie brings a warmth and likability to this difficult character and oozes a sex appeal that I had no idea he possessed. He was excellent and much more handsome on screen than he is on his pictures. Anastasia, I found a very weak character and as frustrating on screen as she is in the books. However, as the film progresses and her strength as a character grows, my eye rolling and frustrated sighs lessened and I began to warm to her.

The sex scenes (which is what you all want to know really!) were erotic but not as daring as some viewers had hoped. Leanne expected the sex to be steamier but for me, it was exactly as I had imagined it would be. The Red Room of Pain looked amazing and I was very excited by it, something which will NOT please my vanilla husband. It was prettier than I imagined and was filled with fascinating play things.

The film cuts out a lot of the pointless, faffy dialogue and gives the Fifty Shades of Grey Movie a much quicker and exciting pace. Compared to the book, for the first time ever, I would say that the film was a lot better. It was more polished, it was warmer and Christian Grey was actually likable (and hot, don’t forget hot!). The sex scenes worked better, there was no annoying inner goddess and the pointless overthinking was removed.

The after-film reaction from the viewers was mixed, with Annalise Donnelly and Catherine Swindlehurst feeling that some important parts of the books had been missed out and another viewer, Amy saying that she found Anastasia, annoying to watch.

For me, I found the Fifty Shades of Grey Movie quite enjoyable and would go to see it again. I might even bring my husband next time, just for a few Red Room tips…..

Overall it was a 7/10
